Astrea Academy Dearne is an 11-16 non-selective, non-denominational secondary school in Goldthorpe, Barnsley. We have over 1,100 scholars on roll here, with 240 new places in Year 7 each year.
We are part of Astrea Academy Trust, a family of primary and secondary academies in Cambridgeshire and South Yorkshire. The trust is committed to making sure that every child gets a brilliant education. Astrea aims to make sure that children learn, thrive and lead successful lives. Being a part of this successful and ambitious trust means that our scholars, and colleagues alike, benefit from a rich partnership of opportunities.
Astrea Academy Dearne is fully committed to an inclusive, comprehensive curriculum for all. Everything we do here is underpinned by our five core values: scholarship, curiosity, tenacity, responsibility and respect. We believe in traditional approaches to teaching and we value scholarship. In recognition of this, we refer to our young adults as “scholars” to reflect the commitment that everyone makes to academic learning.
We are very proud to be rated as a “Good” school by Ofsted. Following our latest inspection, in 2023, inspectors praised our “ambitious curriculum” and noted that pupils with special educational needs and/or disabilities receive a “carefully planned curriculum”.
While we have a strong focus on academic achievement, our scholars also benefit from a wide range of extra-curricular activities, including sport, the Duke of Edinburgh Award, and the Combined Cadet Force.
We are always happy to show prospective scholars and their families around. If you would like to visit our academy, please contact the school office on 01709 892211 or at info@astreadearne.org
